About Diwali

Diwali, also known as “Deepavali” or “”Deepawali” is the most famous festival in India and it is celebrated by Hindus, Sikhs and Jains. It falls in the beginning of winter season in India and in some of the regions, their New Year begins from Diwali day. As per Hindu religion, this festival is celebrated to mark the returning of Lord Rama after fourteen years of exile. Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth is also worshiped on Diwali day and people pray for their health and prosperity. Families decorate their houses with Rangoli and light Diyas and candles in the evening. There is a spectacular display of fireworks on Diwali night. Diwali festival season starts with Dhanteras, the festival of wealth, which falls two days before Diwali and this period is the busiest shopping season in India. It is customary to buy Gold ornaments on Dhanteras and presenting sweets and Diwali gifts to friends and relatives on this day is an essential part of celebrations.
